Why don’t you put horses in your Peri mysteries?”
–Everyone Who Knows Me
The short answer is because we don’t have a lot of horses in Peri’s hometown of Placentia, California and I haven’t found a way to get my P.I. on a horse.
The short answer is also the long answer.
So I wrote a romantic suspense set at a horse show in Burbank at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center.
In real life, my horse Snoopy lived through what most horses have managed to avoid–a debilitating injury. It was a three-year process from hurt to healed, that I documented every step of the way. When I decided to write a book about it, I realized quickly that it was not my story to tell.
So Snoopy tells his story of becoming a champion show horse, then breaking his leg, and having to decide whether to quit or to rise up. This book is a fictionalized version of a real event, unless you think animals really talk. Then it’s all true.
